Only 5000 Springfield civil war rifles were converted in 1865 to breach loaders. Most have been shortened for cadet sales by Bannerman and others in the late 1800s. This one is in original, complete functioning condition. Walnut stock has good color and is in good condition with some chips (loss) in the ramrod channel and normal dents and wear. Metal was originally in the bright and now has partially turned a natural brown patina with minimal pitting. Trapdoor loading, ejection system and lock function. Bore is dark and I have not attempted to clean it. A hard to find rifle at a reasonable price. Feel free to call 218-839-9272 or email chriskobberdahl2gmail.
