Description:
This is a Martini Henry Mk III Rifle by B.S.A. & M Co. (Birmingham Small Arms and Metal Company) manufactured in 1885 that was converted to .303 caliber in 1896 by Enfield. The original 1885 markings are still present on the right side of the receiver and the conversion markings to .303 MK1 by Enfield are on the left. The re-barreling with the new .303 caliber barrel meant a fresh slimmer forend and guard had to be fitted. The barrel is covered in British proofs and acceptance markings. It has a nice consistent patina on all the metal parts, and the wood has a nice uniform look to it. There are a few dents and scratches present in the wood, typical for issued military rifles, with a large ding on the left side on the wrist. The guard has a double split in it right where it joins with the reciever. This Martini Enfield Mk.1 comes with an original cleaning rod and has a nice bright bore with sharp rifling. This is a scarce piece, as most of these rifles did not survive military service and this particular example is in very good condition overall. This all-original and interesting British Military conversion rifle would make an excellent addition to any military collection. As an antique, this Martini Mk.1 can be shipped directly to the buyer, no FFL needed.
