Serial Number: 11758

The C Grade Fox is considered by most to be one of the most handsome of the A.H. Fox Graded guns, with its finely cut English scroll, game scene engraving, and nicely engraved trigger guard.  The C Grade shipped with European walnut figured well on both sides of the stock.  Many guns offered for sale lack information on which to base a decision.  A shotgunner should want to know specifics…stock dimensions, choke constrictions, minimum wall thicknesses, weight, balance point, trigger pulls…in addition to viewing photos.  In most ads the photos show no real details of the gun.  Don’t you want to know what you are buying?  A lot of bad things happen to vintage guns over time, and most offered for sale at low prices have poor stock dimensions (making them impossible to shoot well for most shooters) amateur repairs, poor restorations, and even cut barrels and stocks.  Making wise decisions requires adequate information.  This fine Philly Fox CE Grade was made during the best times at the A.H. Fox Gun Co. when Ansley himself was in full charge and doing the final inspection of guns himself.  Made in 1909, serial number 11758 has all the internal parts are highly polished, the engraving is deep and expertly cut…noticeably superior to later guns, the wood is well figured on both sides of the buttstock, and the barrels are finely struck.  Examine the photos closely and you will see the finest engraved CE Grade available today!  We have the factory order card and a Factory letter for this gun, a copy of which will go to the new owner.  It shows the gun was shipped just as you see it now, with all original parts, bore diameters, chokes, stock dimensions, and yes, even the pad is noted on the order card.  The gun has been expertly restored to historical correct finishes; bone and charcoal case color, rust blued barrels, charcoal blue trigger guard, and a fine hand-rubbed oil finish on the stocks.  The checkering is superb, the screws near perfect, and the stock has very nice, modern stock dimensions.  The 30” No. 2 weight barrels are tight as new on the hinge pin and breech face and are presently choked F/F.  Clients in today’s world shoot these guns in the field and at the traps, and this gun is mechanically excellent in all ways.  We have lengthened the chambers to 2 ¾” and extended the taper of the forcing cones from 5/8” to 1 ½” taper making the gun shoot softer and have better patterns with today’s modern loads.  What a great gun for upland game and vintage sporting clays events.  We can alter the chokes if you wish within a few days of purchase.  You would be hard pressed to find a better Fox CE Grade gun.  With the cost of restoring a gun to this level exceeding $3000 and a wait time of over a year, buying this gun avoids both added expenses and time waiting for your gun to come back.  Finding English stocked Fox guns is an infrequent affair, and to find one built during under direct supervision of Ansley Herman Fox himself is a definite plus.  Don’t miss out on this opportunity and thanks for looking at our guns!
