Description:
Serial #58883, .450 CF, 4 1/2" octagon barrel with a very good bore that has minor pitting along its length. This is a very nice, lightly engraved revolver, marked “WILKINSON & SON, PALL MALL, LONDON" along the top of the barrel. The metal retains visible traces of the original bright blue finish along the barrel and ejector rod swing-arm, while the remainder of the metal has a mellow plum-brown and dark gray patina. The frame has a scalloped design in place of the usual Tranter “football" marking on the left side. The finely checkered walnut grip has small handling marks and blemishes scattered about, with some flattening of the points, and a Wilkinson registration number on the left side: “6888". The action lock-up is still tight, and the mechanism is fully functional. According to Wilkinson records, the revolver was sold in August of 1878 to an F.R. Prissick (no further information is available). This is the very gun pictured on pg. 132 and 133 of “Tranter Cartridge Firearms" by Black, Guerin & Michaud; (2007). This is a very nice Wilkinson retailed Tranter, and is in very good condition overall. Antique
