Percussion Double Barrel Fowling Gun
Here we present an antique Williams Silver Inlaid English Double Barrel Percussion Side by Side Shotgun, made sometime in the mid-19th Century in England. It features a full-length stock and dual sidelock hammers. This would likely have been exported from England to a country like the United States with a thriving market for all sorts of firearms. As people moved West and settled in remote areas, hunting was especially important to put food on the table and for protecting the homestead. This would have been a good gun for fowl hunting.
There is a nice silver inlaid hunting scene on the barrel rib which is a very neat feature!
The overall condition is Good. The action is as strong as ever. The bore is dark and dirty from age. The Damascus barrels have darkened to a smooth brown patina. The left buttstock has seen a significant amount of action due to its wear. The right toe of the buttstock has a chip just in front of the plate. “WILLIAMS” is clearly read on both locks. This double barrel shotgun would look great displayed above the mantle!
