Blunt & Syms were gun makers located at 44 Chatham St. active from 1837-65, especially known for their early pepperbox revolvers that were similar to, though different from, Ethan Allen’s wares. Orison Blunt was one of the partners and was also been a contractor for military rifles for the Union during the American Civil War. This single barrel shotgun would have been used for putting game on the table and protecting the homestead. It is gorgeously decorated with German silver patriotic and pastoral panel scenes throughout to include a federal eagle on each side of the butt stock, a stag chasing a doe on the patchbox, a hunter with his dog on the cheek rest, and game birds on the wrist. The barrel wedge escutcheons are also of German silver. The left side plate reads “JOHN PAUL”, the original owner. This very well may have been a presentation piece of some sort given the work that went into making this beauty. “BLUNT & SYMS” appears in an arc at the front of the lock. “NEW YORK” can clearly be seen on the top of the barrel. The overall condition is good. The action is good as it functions well. The bore is smooth and in great shape. Fine and handsome engraving. A mighty nice shotgun that deserves a prominent place in your collection! Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrels are 29 inches. Caliber: 14 Gauge Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE. Delivered directly to your door by express mail!
