Look for the gold '55 Chevy road sign! ~Trades and offers are always considered~ Very Rare First-Month Production Serial Number 50 M1849 Colt London Percussion Pocket Revolver, .31 Cal, mfg. 1853 with 5" barrel. This is a wonderful original London Colt made the first month of production in 1853. Approximately 11,000 '49 Colt pocket pistols were made at Colt's London factory between 1853-1856 and this is the one and only number 50. One unique feature to this pistol is the use of regular Hartford brass gripstraps as opposed to iron which became standard on London production guns. The earliest English Colts however did use brass. Overall the metal has a dark plum patina with strong traces of thinned bluing visible along the sides of the barrel and within protected areas. The backstrap and triggerguard retain 70% original Silver finish turned black. The original wood grips are nicely figured and fit perfectly. They retain a smooth untouched finish with a faint 1/2" check on the right side, an old surface chip on the left side, and some marring on the butt. Matching serial number "50" marked on the frame, barrel, cylinder, backstrap, triggerguard, wedge, and loading lever. Clear original Colt London barrel address, Colt's Patent marking, and English proofs on the barrel and cylinder. Original hammer, trigger, and cone front sight. All screws appear original except for the hammer screw. The action is crisp and functions well with the exception of one cylinder position which always tends to hang up. All nipples are clean originals. The bore shows good strong rifling front to back with moderate blackpowder frosting. Low digit Colt revolvers such as this are very difficult to find and highly sought after, especially in such fine original condition. A choice addition to any collection.
