Description:
This is a very nice World War 2 U.S. M1 Carbine made by I.B.M. (Internation Business Machines) in 1943.  After serving in WW2 this IBM was sent back thru the U.S. Military's Arsenal Rebuild program at which time it was cleaned, inspected, and upgraded.  Any parts that showed wear or damage were replaced, and any parts which had been redesigned since 1943 were often replaced with the new versions  (This particular M1 Carbine kept it's original barrel and trigger housing, but most of the small parts were changed).  This weapon would have then been issued for the Korean War or kept in U.S. inventory until it was sold off as surplus by the D.C.M. in the 1960's and 70's.   This M1 Carbine is serial number 3921940 and was in I.B.M.'s first block production.  It retains all of the original finishes on all of the parts and has not been re-Parkerized like many we have seen.  The gun shows a nice consistent original Parkerizing that shows only minor wear and handling marks.  The "I.B.M." stamped barrel has a mirror-bright bore with sharp rifling and no visible pitting, erosion, or imperfections of any kind.  All of the controls on this M1 Carbine are in perfect working order, including the adjustable rear sight.  The action on this carbine is slick and smooth, and it slams into battery with authority.  We have no doubt that it will function just as well today as the day it left the factory 76 years ago.  This I.B.M. was put into a commerical folding stock at some point along the way after being sold to a civilian.  It is a very nice vintage folding stock, very well made with a 1-piece wooden stock and pistol grip.  The folding portion is blued steel and locks up properly in the folded or extended position, and is comfortable when shouldered.  The ventilated handguard is also blued steel and fits the gun nicely with no wiggle in it.  This vintage stock set is much nicer than most we have seen over the years, and most certainly was made here in the United States.  This IBM M1 Carbine comes with one 15-round commercial magazine in excellent condition.  If you have been looking for an affordable but original WW2 M1 Carbine here is your chance to get one of the sought-after I.B.M.-made guns at a great price.
