Payment Types Accepted: Visa,Master Card, Discover,Check Description: Manufactured in 1976, this 50 caliber muzzleloader was made by Mowrey in Olney, Texas. These vintage Mowrey-made guns are well known for being very well-made and very accurate, particularly the Texas-made guns before the firm moved to Indiana. Most Mowrey designs were based off of the antique Ethan Allen design with a narrow receiver/lock, a long heavy barrel, and a lot of drop to a crescent buttplate. The number of exposed screws was kept to a minimum, making their rifles very sleek looking. Mowrey built every part of these guns, including the barrels on machinery bought from Douglas Barrels when Douglas quit making black powder barrels. These Texas-made guns are sought-after today by shooters and collectors alike. This particular model is called the 1776 Bicentennial made in 1976 while Mowrey was still in Texas. It features a 32.25" inch .50 caliber heavy octagon barrel with iron sights, a brass receiver, a heavy brass crescent buttplate, a gloss-finished American Walnust stock set, a steel hammer, and brass ramrod guides. It is in great shape overall, showing only minor wear and handling marks. The heavy octagon barrel was left "in the white" from the factory and shows some browning and patina from prior surface rust and age. The bore is in excellent condition with clean and sharp rifling. The stock set is in excellent condition as well, free from any cracks, chips, or repairs, showing only some very minor handling/storage marks. This rifle seems to be in perfect working order, and the hammer still has both the half-cock and full-cock positions intact. If you have been looking for a unique and neat vintage muzzleloader for your collection this .50 caliber Texas-made Mowrey would be a great choice.
