1949 SMITH & WESSON .38/44 HEAVY DUTY PRE MODEL 20 .38 SPECIAL 4" D.A. REVOLVER. Serial number "S73,XXX" and all matching including cylinder, butt, barrel and crane. Custom two tone finish professionally done with matte blue underside, backstrap, top strap and cylinder release latch. Barrel and sides both brilliant blue as well as cylinder but with flutes also matte finish. Very particular as to what customer wanted in this two tone finish. Mint bore, rilfing and chambers. Five screw frame with excellent screws. Case colors still on hammer and trigger. Later S&W medallion diamond grips numbered to another gun but period. Considered a transition model able to take higher than previously known pressure ammo in the .38 S&W special calibers.
