Description:
Model 1873 Springfield Trapdoor rifle produced by Springfield Arsenal in 1883. It is chambered for the .45-70 government cartridge. The rifling is sharp and visible with frosting in the grooves and some minor pitting midway up the barrel. It still retains most of the original rust blue finish with wear around the end of the muzzle and on some of the high points. The case hardened receiver has a nice brown patina and the action locks up tightly with all parts functioning correctly. It is missing the upper stacking ring on the front barrel band and does not come with the cleaning rod. The stock shows the typical wear but has a wonderful color and a nice grain. The cartouches are faded but still nicely visible. However, the acceptance cartouche with the date of manufacture does have a few scratches through it, but appears to match the date of manufacture. The Model 1873 patterns are a rare find in today's collector market as most were converted over to the later 1884 pattern with the adjustible rear sight and newer lock. This rifle also comes with an original 'US' marked bayonet.
