(Cornelius) Maker, Birmingham: A 12 Bore Boxlock Game Gun Made About 1905, It was originally nitro proved at 1 1/4 ounce and then in 1993 it was reproved in Birmingham to 3" chambers at 1200 BAR with the proper re-proof marks, 30" extractor dovetail lump barrels with a rib extension and crossbolt, At .730 .005 & .012 (Skt.I & Skt.II), 3" chambers, The wall thickness at .033" on both barrels, Matted flat tapered rib, Double triggers, Frontal Anson forend release, Splinter forend, Open Pistol grip stock at 14 1/2 x 1 1/2 x 2 1/4" over a horn buttplate, Cast-off for the right hand, 7 lbs., Very nice wood with good color and contrast, 99% coverage of well-cut scroll engraving, The barrels reblacked and now at 95%, No case colors remain but it has a nice patina, The stock nicely refinished and at 92%, The checkering at 95%, The bores are excellent from breech to muzzle and totally free of any pits, The barrels ring with an excellent chime. The wood is totally stout and with these dimensions it comes to the hand with ease and points great. Cornelius Dixon started as a gunmaker in Birmingham in 1894 and records have them operating on Bath St. as late as 1910.
