Description:
This is an extremely nice all-original French Military M.A.C. Model 1935S M1 pistol made sometime in 1947-1948.  This is a NON-IMPORT marked gun, meaning that it made it into the States prior to 1968, or was brought back as trophy from Vietnam by a U.S. Soldier.  The "Modele 1935S" is a semi-automatic pistol chambered in 7.65 Longue (.32 French Long) that was a competitor in the 1935 to 1937 French Military trials for a new sidearm.  The Model 1935S lost out to the Model 1935A in the competition to be the main sidearm of the French Military, but nonetheless ended up in production to alleviate sidearm shortages.  With the invasion of France by the Germans in WW2 the production of the Model 1935S was halted until after the occupation ended, with production starting up again in 1944 at the MAS factory. With the outbreak of the French-colonial wars in Indochina the MAS factory's production was shifted entirely to the manufacture of light machine guns and rifles and not the Model 1935S pistol.  Production of the 1935S pistol was moved to 3 other French arms producers which were: M-F (Manufacture Française d’Armes et Cycles de Saint Étienne, aka ManuFrance) which manufactured 10,000 pistols in 1944–45; SAGEM (Société d'Applications Générales d'Électricité et de Mécanique), which manufactured approx. 10,000 pistols in 1945–1953, and M.A.C. (Manufacture Nationale d’Armes de Chatellerault), which manufactured 56,087 pistols in 1946–1956. MAC revised the 1935S safety design to function like the Model 1935A safety in 1946; this change was included in all MAC and SAGEM 1935S production starting in 1946, with the pistols marked 1935S M1 starting in March 1947. In total, about 82,773 1935S pistols were produced between 1937 and 1956.  The Model 1935S M1 from M.A.C. went on to serve the French troops in combat in Vietnam and well into the 1960's, at which point it was replaced by the M.A.C. Model 1950 in 9mm Parabellum.  This particular example of the Model 1935S M1 is serial number C 9875 made by the M.A.C. firm.  It is in very good condition overall, inside and out.  The original factory blue finish still looks great on this pistol showing only scattered light finish wear and minor handling marks. The worst of the finish wear is on the front and rear grip straps, typical for a military issued and possibly combat-used pistol.  The bore is very good to excellent, bright and clean with strong rifling throughout the barrel.  The original black composite checkered grips are in very good condition overall, showing wear consistent with the rest of the gun and free from any cracks, chips, repairs, or major damage.  The action on this Model 1935S M1 is smooth and slick, and when locked in battery there is no wiggle in the barrel.  The frame-to-slide fit is excellent.  All of the controls on this M.A.C. are in perfect working order, including the slide-mounted safety which physically blocks the hammer from touching the firing pin.  This M.A.C. Model 1935S M1 comes complete with one original factory 8-round magazine, properly marked on the floorplate with "1935-S" and in perfect working order.  We have no doubt that this pistol will function 100% like the day it left the factory 70 plus years ago.  This M.A.C. Model 1935S M1 would be a great addition to any military or Vietnam War weapons collection.  Very seldom do we encounter these in good condition and complete, much less as nice as this one without import marks.
