Description:
Your father's gun appears to be a Model Royal 594 Extra Deluxe. The barrels were of premium Boehler steel with chromed bores. Standard barrel length were 68cm, 70cm and 71cm. Standard chokes were 5 and 10 tenths. The floral motif engraving is hand chiseled. The weight was listed as 3.1 kg. The Model 594 Extra Deluxe was catalogued as a field model with standard double triggers with the 1st being articulated. A single trigger was available as an option. The 1974 price was Lit.205.000, ex-works. Extra barrel sets for this model would be unusual. A trap version was not catalogued. F.lli Gamba's Over/Under trap guns of that time were the Models 610 Astor Trap EAM priced at Lit.253.000, ex-works and the 620 Astor Special Trap EAM priced at Lit.335000, ex-works. The 620 Astor Special Trap EAM Extra Luxe was priced at Lit. 560.000,. The Model 610 and 620 had standard barrel lengths of 72 or 74 cm choked 5 and 10 tenths. Both models had removeable trigger groups. The gun weight is listed as 3.45 kg.. The engraving patterns of these models differ from each other and are different than your father's Gamba. Interestingly, F.lli Gamba also listed the Model 620 as available with special features having a base price of Lit. 1.080.000, ex works. If your father's gun has 72cm or 74cm (or longer) barrels and has front and center beads on the rib, it may be a special order Trap built on the 620 action/stock/forearm but with the engraving pattern of the Model 594 Extra Deluxe. These special order guns could be built to customer's measure, special features and with extra barrel sets. Does an importer's name and city appear on the gun? Post a clear, close-up photo of all the markings on the monobloc , barrels and frame. Among them will a date code and some other clues. The published gun value guides do not list all of the foreign makes imported into North America, especially those with low sales volume. In some cases, a specific model gun may be listed under an importer's name and not the maker's name. F.lli Gamba's guns have been catalogued as Rottwiell (a distributor) and have sometimes been erroneously listed as being Renato Gamba (a cousin). Unfortunately, I know of no guides that list your father's gun. Normally, I would recommend checking the online s for current prices being PAID for the same make and model in like condition but, you may have a very long wait. I doubt that many Gamba's like your father's made their way to North America. DF Montani Semper Liberi
