Description: *Sale Pending* Lloyd & Son, Sidelock Hammer Double Rifle, .450/400 3" Case Nitro Express, 26″ chopper lump fluid steel barrels fitted with a full length machined rib, holding one standing and two folding leaves stamped "100", "200", and "300" express rear sight to a raised rib front sight. Barrel tubes are engraved "Lloyd & Son", "Gun Manufacturers Lewes", "For Cordite", and ".450/400 3" Case". Barrel flats are stamped with London nitro proofs for .400 and for 60 grains of cordite and 400 grain bullet. Barrel rib extension for a cross-bolt 3rd fastener, extractor. Island sidelock rounded action with rebounding hammers and Greener style cross-bolt rib extension third fastener. Action, hammers and lockplates are engraved with acanthus scroll work with “Lloyd & Son, Lewes” on each lockplate. Stocked in dark straight grained English walnut, engraved steel capped pistol grip buttstock measures 14 1/2″ LOP over a widow peaked steel butt plate, cheekpiece, vacant gold oval on toe line, rear sling stud, under barrel front sling mount. Matching splinter forend has Deeley & Edge lever release. Weight 10 lbs. 8 oz. CONDITION: Excellent mechanical and very good finish. Barrel black thinning in typical wear areas, action shows small amounts of original case color in protected ares. Engraving remains crisp on lockplates and hammers with some softening on action. Stocks retain nearly all of a light hand rubbed oil refinish, sharp edges slightly softened. The finish shows a few minor rubs and indents. Bores are excellent with sharp, strong rifling throughout. Action is tight. Barrels are on face. Bottom of barrel tubes under forend show some small scattered light pits. All in all, a very nice, usable nitro express double rifle in a useful caliber for any continent. SOLD |
