Description:
John Browning designed the Colt Woodsman and it became one of Colt's most successful rimfire pistols of all time.  First introduced in 1915, the Woodsman name became official in 1927.  These "1st Series" Woodsmans were in production until 1947, with a large break in production between 1942 and 1945 because of World War 2.  This particular example was made in 1942, just prior to manufacturing being halted because of the war effort.  In fact, despite being made in 1942 it likely wasn't shipped from the factory until sometime after the war in late 1945.  This Woodsman features a gloss blue factory finish, a 6 & 5/8ths" inch tapered barrel, front and rear adjustable target sights, a factory ivory bead front sight blade, a high-speed ammo mainspring housing, a left-side mounted thumb safety/hold-open, and full-checkered American Walnut grips.  The original factory blue finish on this gun would rate 98% if not for the gripstraps, which show some heavy finish wear in spots leaving a gray patina in place of the bright blue.  The remainder of the finish is bright, clean, and beautiful, showing only a few tiny handling/storage marks.  The bore in this Colt is excellent, mirror-bright with no visible pitting, erosion, or imperfections of any kind.  The original checkered American Walnut grips are also in excellent condition, free from any cracks, chips, or repairs.  Both grip panels have clean and crisp checkering, and both sides are perfectly fit to the gun and tight to the frame.  All of the controls on this Woodsman are in perfect working order, including the adjustable sights.  The slide to frame fit is excellent, slick and smooth without any excessive play.  The internals on this Colt are just as clean as the exterior and it is obvious that this pistol has not been shot very much during it's life.  We have no doubt that it will function just as reliably as the day it left the factory.  As mentioned earlier, this Woodsman has a factory original high-speed mainspring housing, allowing it to safely fire any .22 Long Rifle ammo, including the high velocity stuff.  This Colt comes with one factory original two-tone 10-round magazine in excellent condition.  If you have been looking for a Colt Woodsman that you can shoot at the range or farm but is still nice enough to be an investment, this 1942-production example would be an excellent choice.
