Description:
#4904 Colt 1851 Navy Model, 7-1/2”x36cal, 7XXX (c,1852) very early 3rd Variation with the small oval triggerguard and matching including the rammer, but the cylinder number looks like an overstamp and wedge is unnumbered. Smooth even thin grayish brown exterior with a decent cylinder scene remaining (about 80-85% of a very good rolled scene). Decent action and the bore is VG/VG+ with very decent rifling; about a “7+” on a scale of 10 and likely will clean a bit better. Very well fitting one piece wood grips with medium wear and no damage. This 168 year old early Colt Navy was argumentively the best thing going during the California Gold Rush, and anyone fortunate enough to purchase such a gun would certainly have an advantage in a gun fight over a disputed gold claim. All-in-all, this is a very decent looking and a very early old Navy that likely saw the entire Gold Rush era as well as possibly being carried into the American Civil War as a personal weapon of some soldier or officer.
