Description:
Colt USMC marked model 1909 .45 Colt,  Date of issue is 1910. First issue of the .45 Colt to the United States Marine Corps confirmed with Colt Archives letter and is within the serial numbers of those issued to the Marines for Philippines use... This was at the time the 45 caliber was being issued to military troops in the Philippines to repel the Moro warriors. Blue Book says Ultra Rare. SN 257XX. Features immaculate bore, nice grips.  Cylinder fits tight. Butt of revolver marked USMC. Fully functional.  

The Colt Model 1909 was also the last military-issue .45 Colt. It would also be nearly 100 years before another issue sidearm was specifically marked “USMC,” adding to the appeal of these unique .45s.

Provenance:
Colt U.S. Marine Corps contract Model 1909 DA revolver that was manufactured in 1910. The Marine Corps purchased 1,300 New Service revolvers in the 23101-26300 serial number range from Colt thru the Navy Department beginning in May 1909. In addition to the "U.S.M.C." markings, the Marine Model 1909 revolvers had a narrower round profile butt and were fitted with two-piece walnut grips. This revolver retains somewhat of the Colt high polish blue finish ejector rod and lanyard swivel, night blue trigger and hammer with top and polished hammer sides. The butt is roll-stamped "U.S.M.C." in two lines behind the lanyard swivel. The cylinder is tight, revolver is functional and shootable with appropriate ammunition. The grips have been replaced somehere along the way as they are not checkered.

Come with Colt Archives letter stating "USMC No. 756 Sold to United States Government, Depot Quartermaster, Philadelphia, PA. November 4, 1909.
