Description:
This is the medium frame .30 cal rim fire version of Frank Wesson's Model 1859 pistol, serial number 58 appears on the frame under the grips only. The barrel is marked "cast steel", with "F. WESSON / PATENTED OCT 25, 1859" on the top barrel flat; iron frame, brass front sight, rosewood grips, 4" round to octagon barrel, all original parts, all markings legible. Fewer than 1000 of these scarce pistols were manufactured in the early 1860s.
Condition: left grip has old repaired crack, both grips appear to have old but nice revarnish, iron frame has medium gray patina with no traces of the original finish, steel barrel is a darker blue/gray patina due to the fact that it is a better quality metal than the frame, mechanically fine, bore is fair, typical crowned muzzle and knurled wedding band at the round/octagon junction. Overall a nice-looking example of a hard-to-find gun.
