Here we present an antique English Double Barrel Side x Side Percussion Hammer Shotgun, manufactured circa the 1860s likely in Birmingham, England.
Birmingham was the epicenter for English gunmaking all the way through the turn of the century. This is an English fowling piece that is elegant in its simplicity and practicality. This double barrel hammer gun would have been used primarily for putting game on the table or defending one’s homestead.
The overall condition is good. The action is strong. The bores are dark with age and smooth. The Damascus barrels have faded over time but retain a very pleasing brown patina. “LONDON” is elegantly engraved on the barrel rib. Two small bands, one gold, one silver, stream across the breech. “SHARPE” can be seen on both locks.
