Description:
Outstanding Pennsylvania longrifle.  Made and signed by Cornelius Reichwein, Berks County, PA.  He was born in Baden - Wurttemberg, Germany on May 26, 1802.  His family moved to America and he opened a gun shop in Cumru township, Berks Co. in 1835.  He died in 1885 and is buried in the Mohnsville Cemetery, Berks County, PA.  This Flintlock rifle was manufactured around 1838 and is adorned with 24 silver inlays.  The photos tell the story of the superb craftsmanship far better that we can describe.  From the brass fittings, full patchbox, toe plate, top comb inlay, pickholder and stock inlays, to the "man in the moon" silver inlays, this rifle is one of the very finest we have ever seen.  This rifle measures 55 inches overall length with a 40 inch octagonal barrel in .45 caliber.  The bore is excellent plus.  Weight is 8 lbs. 8 oz.
