Description:
This is a late 1960 or early 1961 Bearcat, with a post alphabet serial number of 5716. These little 22 cal. revolvers were extremely well made, and are quite collectible on today's market. There were several production changes from the first issue introduction in August of 1958, until the new model Bearcat came out in July of 1970, and this series ceased production. This gun has several early features including the shorter S/N height of 1/16", which was enlarged to 1/8" around S/N 35,000. The Ruger logo on the barrel has the S R intertwined into the eagle marking. The ejector rod housing is made of steel on this example, which is correct until S/N range around 33,000. The grips are original, (without logo) and in excellent shape. The cyilnder shows a very faint drag line, and the engraving is without imperfections. These revolvers were produced without a transfer bar safety, and this one has not been factory modified. I believe this recall service is still available free from Ruger under warranty. These guns are cosidered unsafe without the recall update. The unaltered variation is more sought after in the collector world, so this piece is sold as a collector item only, but functions perfect as factory built. The hammer has four clicks when drawn back, as it should. The bore of the 4" barrel is mint, and shows a very low round count. All in all, an excellent example of an early Bearcat in 98% overall condition. Gun only, no box. Please check your local gun laws before purchase.
