Description:
Serial #771, .303 British, 20 1/2" barrel with a very good bore that has light-moderate freckling within the grooves. This is a 1901 dated carbine built to New Zealand specifications (adapted for use with the Pattern 1888 bayonet and lacking a barrel band) that has about 30-40% of the original blue remaining, that blends smoothly with a mostly dark, plum-brown patina mottled with spots of pewter gray along many of the exposed edges and surfaces. The bolt is armory re-numbered to a different gun (“577"), and there are double arrow deaccession stamps on the receiver and barrel breech. The receiver has armorer stamped issue markings on the right side of the wrist socket: “N^Z / 25 / 1901"; and there are crisp British military markings throughout. The walnut stock and forend have numerous handling marks and minor blemishes scattered about, including a small crack a the nose of the original handguard (the handguards are often missing on these New Zealand carbines). A correct carbine magazine is chained to the underside, and a period leather sling is fitted. This is a fairly rare Lee-Enfield variant, complete with the even rarer handguard, and rates about very good overall. FFL or C&R
