Description:
Very nice E. Remington and Sons first year. Civil War model New Army model 1863. 44 cal perusion cap and ball. Eight inch barrel.  All numbers match, barrel, frame, cylinder, trigger guard, and on inside of left grip. First year made.  June 13 1862 contract. Most likely shipped May or June 1863. Overall fair condition with good patina and minor pitting. Black walnut grips no cracks nor major chips. There is one long scratch that looks like a crack on the right grip where the top butt strap meets wood, but with grip off it is only a surface scratch. Serial number on the grips match rest of weapon. There is no cartouche on grips but military proof marks all over metal parts. Bore is very good, bright, clean, good grooves with minor pitting. Good strong spring and hand. Hammer at half and full cock somooth and locks strong. Cylinder turns as it should and locks and falls where it should. Her nipples are not chewed up. Old style loading lever (with no slot) works smoothly and locks back closed tightly.
Markings are as follows
As stated above serial number or parts of it  on all five areas. On the brass trigger guard just behind the hold down screw is a C.  There is also a C on the left rear of the barrel just where it meets the frame. Take off the trigger guard there is a S stamp on metal under it. On the left side just above the hammer screw is an A. Low on right side just behind the side of the trigger guard is a L.
The grips have no cartouche but on the butt of each one is stamped a R. There are several M's everywhere, barrel, cylinder, and frame. On top of barrel is  Patented September 14 1858/  E. Remington & Sons Ilon New Yourk USA. New Model. * The New Model looks like ifferent font.
