Description:
Winchester 1876 lever action rifle chambered in .45-75. This is a very, very early first model (no dust cover). I would venture to say that with serial #79there cannot be many that exist earlier than this fine example. Standard 28” octagon barrel has a dark bore but it has strong rifling and it is very “shootable”. This rifle is mechanically very sound and tight. All metal finishes have aged to a browning patina. The stock and forearm are solid with only one small crack on the right side of the forearm near the cap. They appear to be original but they have both been sanded and the finish seems is a dull oil. The forearm still fits well; the buttstock was sanded to the point that the top & bottom tangs and the crescent butt plate are proud of the wood. Summary: This is a very “solid” example of a 1stmodel 1876 and one of the earliest ones still in existence. Very Rare!
