VERY SCARCE DWM Swiss 1906 Military Contract LUGER
1 of Only 5,000 with Swiss Military Starburst
Here we present a DWM Model 1906 Swiss Military Contract Luger Pistol, made in 1906 in Berlin, Germany. Only 5,000 of these were made specifically for the military, distinguished from the similarly scarce police contract by the Swiss cross inside the starburst on the chamber. Switzerland was among the very earliest adopters of this iconic pistol. They liked the design so much, in fact, that they eventually set up domestic production in Switzerland.
This fine example of a Swiss Luger bears the mark “P.38”, which indicates private (prevet) sale out of service in the year (19)38. It bears the Swiss Cross inside a starburst over the chamber for the Swiss military. The toggle is marked “DWM” for the manufacturer Deutsche Waffen- und Munitionsfabriken. Various proof marks are found throughout, including that of the inspector Vogelsang and arsenal rework proofs that allowed this pistol to be kept in Swiss service for 32 years!
The overall condition is fine. The original blue finish is 95%. Straw colors are strong on the small parts. The markings are clear and legible. The serial numbers match. The grips are in very nice condition and are also matching. The magazine only bears a small “2” on the wooden base. The bore is sharp and shiny. The action is excellent. Here is a very scarce Swiss pistol that will make an excellent and iconic addition to your collection!
