Description: DESCRIPTION: Colt 1860 Army 44 caliber percussion single action revolver with standard features such as the 6-shot cylinder, 8" round barrel with brass front sight, walnut grips with inspector cartouches on both sides, case hardened frame and loading rod, blued barrel, brass trigger guard, and blued steel back strap. This one has a mix of Civil War era serial numbers - 22983 on the butt, 120341 on the frame and trigger guard, 34xxx (last 3 numbers illegible) on the barrel, 9600 on the wedge, 4551 on the cylinder pin, and the number totally worn away on the cylinder. The trigger guard is also properly stamped "US" in the old font. After the Civil War was over, many of the Colt 1860 Armies turned in were disassembled, restored, and re-assembled with mixed numbers (similar to the Colt SAA Artillery models), stamped US and issued to the Buffalo Soldiers during the Indian Wars that followed the Civil War. This is one such revolver. CONDITION: Frame and hammer show traces of original case hardening, otherwise are light gray. The steel back strap shows traces of original blue in the recess behind the hammer, otherwise is medium gray. Barrel has turned patina with traces of plum on the underside when the loading rod is lifted. Loading rod is dark patina with some plum blue mixed in. Sub inspector marks that remain are a T behind the trigger guard and a C on the cylinder pin. Walnut grips show numerous dings and scratches with wear and are slightly loose. Right grip has traces of the JT for John Taylor cartouche and the left grip has a fairly legible JSD for John S Duston cartouche. Bore has strong rifling with some scattered pitting. Cylinder is void of all markings and cylinder scene common to these rebuilds; all 6 original nipples are intact. Action is tight and crisp with positive clicks on all notches. No barrel address remains, another casualty of the rebuild/refinish process. Brass trigger guard is a pleasing ochre patina, having never been cleaned, with someone's initials lightly scratched that are not legible and likely done during the period of use by the Buffalo Soldiers. All in all a decent representation of an uncommon version of the 1860 Army that grades NRA Antique Good. TERMS: No international sales.
