Description:
Ultra scarce Pre War Winchester 70 in the highly sought after .22 Hornet caliber! S/N 34*** with matching scribed bolt made in 1941. This rifle is in remarkable condition for being nearly 80 years old showing 95% original Blue and Varnish, with an overall expected light handling wear/patina, but no notable marks, gouges or cracks of any kind. Just a really great rifle. The barrel is 24" with an excellent bore. Mechanics are working properly and as smooth as silk, typical of a pre war 70. This rifle is factory inletted for the matching component numbered full block Lyman 48 WJS receiver sight and has never had a 22g rear sight mounted, as evidenced by the lack of any elevator track on top of the barrel. There is the correct early 12S Lyman filler in the rear sight dovetail. All internal components are correct and I have personally verified that this rifle has never been reamed to K Hornet or any other caliber. It may be a very long wait before another rifle of this vintage, quality, and rarity of caliber becomes available again.
