Western NEW YORK Style Pioneer Weapon
Here we present an antique New York Percussion Rifle & Shotgun Over/Under Combination Gun, manufactured circa the mid-19th Century. The combination of a rifle and shotgun is not a new concept and is still produced to this day. However, guns of this nature are much more scarce than devoted, single barrel shotguns or rifles. These made a lot of sense on the frontier, where you might only have one shoulder fired weapon. When afield, this would have been a great asset, being able to effectively take various types of game, whether furry or feathered. It would have come in handy as well for defending the homestead or camp.
This one features superposed barrels with rifle sights. Tang mounted adjustable peep sight that folds down. Each barrel has its own action and trigger. The rifle has a single set trigger to aid with precision. The stock has a generous cheek piece with a German silver décor. An excellent piece!
The overall condition is very good. The bores are in great shape. The actions are both excellent.
