Description:
General Specs: Fox, Year 1935, 20 Gauge, 5lbs 15oz
Serial Number: 265019

Most double gun enthusiasts recognize that Ansley H. Fox built one of the finest, smallest, boxlock ejector actions in the world. Michael McIntosh, one of the most noted fine gun authors, had great affection for the Fox small bores because of the simple, strong, diminutive action that Ansley’s design allowed. Even in today’s world there is nothing that can be improved upon and is the reason custom gunmakers choose the Fox action and barrels on which to build fine shotguns. This gun began life as a Sterlingworth 20ga. ejector gun with 30” barrels and was completely revamped into what you presently see in the photos. The details that are immediately noticeable, ie engraving, wood figure, checkering, and Doug Turnbull case colors are expertly executed and very tastefully done. More importantly, the person responsible for this upgraded custom gun is a meticulous gun maker that cared about the mechanics, the stock inletting, and general integrity of the gun as much as the aesthetics. The action and forend iron mechanisms were stripped to their smallest parts, cleaned and polished, inspected for function and integrity, then properly lubricated and reassembled. What you have here is a new gun both inside and out. The classic rose and scroll engraving was executed by Master Engraver Rex Pederson, who is also one of the Directors of Fega (Firearms Engravers Guild of America). The action was sculpted and filed so that the top of the action follows the round of the barrels all the way to the rib, the frame rebated to harbor the head of the stock to prevent splitting, a bead of metal shaped to meet the barrel flats bead…nice touches that make quality evident. The stock is gorgeous, contrasting grain French walnut with fiddleback vertical streaking throughout. It is mated perfectly to the receiver and trigger guard both inside and out. The fine-line borderless checkering has both flor-de-lis and ribbons to set the work apart from ordinary. The forend is long and graceful, mimicking Fox’s XE style forend, with a small Schnabel ebony inlay at the tip to set it off. This is a gun that communicates “SIMPLE ELEGANCE” in its execution, rather than over-the-top, boisterous screaming of a gun that yells “LOOK AT ME!!!”. I like them better this way. This gun is worthy of your most serious upland and clay target games, weighing just 5lbs. 15oz. and balanced perfectly 3/16” forward of the hinge pin even with its 30” barrels (please note: the barrels are from a Sterlingworth gun and are not Krupp…the builder embellished that part of the gun for aesthetics) and 15” LOP. Gorgeous, great stock dimensions, as new mechanics…everything you could want in a fine Fox at a price that most can afford to pay for a gun that will last your lifetime and that of your children. Thanks for looking!
