Description:
Colt Third Model derringer (Thuer Model) .41 rimfire, with side pivoting 2½ -inch barrel and varnished walnut grips.  The top of the barrel is stamped:  – COLT –.    41 CAL is stamped on the left side of the frame, just below where the chamber meets the frame.  The serial number is under the left stock.  According to the S.P. Fjestad Blue Book of Gun Values, 40th Anniversary Edition, these derringers were serial numbered approx. 1-45,000, and were manufactured approximate between 1875-1912.  The serial number of this gun falls almost exactly in the center of the 1-45,000 range.  There are no box, papers, or other accessories with this derringer.

The overall condition of this gun is about 40 percent.  The barrel bluing is gone.  About 65 to 70 percent of the nickel-plating is gone.  The bore is in pretty good shape though the bore has some pitting.  There is a minor ding to the barrel just below the "O" in – COLT – stamp.  The left walnut stock has a blemish on the inside curve, about 2/3 up the curve toward the frame.  It might be the edge of a knot held in place by the original varnish, or it might be a piece of the wood, maybe part of the edge of a knot, that might have fallen off and glued back.  After removing the stock and examining it front and back, I cannot confirm which, if either, it might be.  However, it does not appear to be in danger of coming off.  The left stock also has an approximate 1-inch line dent; the wood is not scratched, just dented.  The right stock has a blemish on bottom/back of the stock.  It appears that it was part of a knot, and, with age and drying, that portion of the knot fell out.  All these blemishes are visible in one or more of photos.

This is a antique black powder derringer. This pistol seems to function mechanically.  However, we are selling it, as is, and not warranted safe to shoot. No FFL paperwork required on this gun which is classified as an antique.  We will only ship this item to the United States and only where it is legal to do so.  Please know your local/state laws before buying.
