Description:
General Specs: Frank Malin, Year 1978, 20 Gauge, 6lbs
Serial Number: 80028

Frank E. Malin was a London trained gunsmith that moved to Ontario, Canada and opened shop building classic English style double guns to very high standards. Joined by several gunmakers from England of world renown- Ron Collings, engraver; Tony Tomlinson an actioner from Churchill; David Catchpole, stocker from Holland & Holland; Peter Cook, engraver and actioner from Gallyons.  This group, working out of Melbourne, Ontario, Canada, produced some very fine guns. As the business grew, there was a second location started in London, Ontario and it was there things began to unwind as they were overwhelmed with business and Malin made some bad decisions regarding honest representation of guns. Those who know the maker understand that the early guns were truly BEST GUNS in every sense of the term, as they were produced in Melbourne by the elite group mentioned above. This fine sidelock gun, sn80028 made in 1978 is one of the great guns Malin produced, fitted with fine chopper lump barrels 26" long and struck to perfection in fine English tradition, choked IC/SK and cased in a fine leather case with a full compliment of accessories, the details of this gun are exceptional. Full seven pin sidelock, removable striker discs, articulated front trigger, beaded fences, stocked to the fences, sculpted frame, Purdey style ejectors, perfectly inletted European walnut stock, drop points, checkered butt…there is not much to dislike about this gun. Nicely engraved in a deep relief Celtic style with stippled background and a very elegant look. When you consider features that make a BEST gun, this gun has them all. Weighing 6lbs. and balanced on the hinge pin, it handles the way you would expect coming from the hands of some of the most noted gunmakers of their day. The stock dimensions are 14 3/8” x 2 1/16” x 1 7/16” x neutral cast.  The wood is nicely figured and inletted to the action to perfection.  Just look closely at the photos and you will see a superbly built gun. The gun is as new and mechanically perfect in all ways and when looking inside the locks the stock inletting is superb. Best part is that you can own this fine British influenced sidelock with chopper lump barrels at a bargain price compared to the big names from London. Thanks for looking.
