Description:
Serial #119, 10 Gage, 30" Damascus barrels with a bright bore that has very mild pitting near the breech. This is an early, 1870 G.H. Fox patent, side swing double barrel shotgun made in Boston, MA by the American Arms Company marked with “AS" on the left side of the frame. Considered a very high quality shotgun they were produced in small quantities into the early 1890's having fallen out of favor by sportsmen a decade earlier. This gun is in excellent condition with generous amounts of case color remaining on the side plates, frame and trigger guard. The fine damascus barrels have an even brown patina with great pattern detail and only a few minor use marks and scratches. The full figured walnut stock and forearm are excellent with strong cut checkering remaining and some minor bruises with two shallow gouges on the left side about 2" up from the butt. The action is smooth and crisp with a tight lock up having a 14" length of pull over an original steel butt plate that retains over 60% of the original blue finish and drops of 3 ¼" and 2 1/4" at the heel and comb respectively.
