The carbine's barrel date is 3-43 The carbine's serial number is 1774050. The barrel is from Underwood. The bore and chamber is in very fine to minty condition. All of the parts have their original finish. The sling is original to this carbine and shows service use. The oiler is properly marked for I.P. carbines. The stock and handguard are properly marked for I.P. carbines. The "I" stock and handguard show service use and wear. This gun shows no sign of having a type 3 barrel band installed. All of the parts show wear consistant with the use of the carbine. There is no sign of any alterations. Here is the list of the codes for the parts on this carbine. S'G' code is for Saginaw Gear Grand Rapids. Saginaw Gear Grand Rapids took over production of Irwin Pedersen Company when the firm could not meet government standards for production. This mix of parts is completely correct for original Irwin Pedersen guns that were issued to the government. The Saginaw Gear Plant used what I.P. parts that were usable to produce guns. The other parts needed to complete guns were produced by S'G'. The barrels were produced by 5 other firms. Underwood was one of those firms. Barrel assembly-Front Sight- R-P, Rear Sight- B-S'G', Barrel Band Sling- S'G', Barrel By Underwood dated- 3-43. The stock group,- Stock is marked on right side- SG, Sling Well marked- IR-IP, Hand Guard- IR-IP, Butt Plate- IP-PM, Recoil Plate- IP-W. Trigger Group- Trigger Housing-S'G', Dog Leg Hammer- S'G', Sear- SW-IP, Trigger- S'G', Magazine Release- B-IP, Safety- IP-W. Bolt Group- Flat Bolt- S'G', Firing Pin- S'G', Extractor- S'G'-W. Operating Rod- S'G'. The Magazine is coded OI-S'G' The Oiler Is Coded ISP. This is a service used original as issued veterans take home carbine in about 92% condition. These Irwin Pedersen Carbines are very rare as very few were assembled from parts on hand. Their production amounted to 1/10 of the total production of M1 Carbines produced during World War Two.
