Description:
This is an extremely rare find. Looking over the gun you will find that there are almost no signs of use or function. The internals look as if they were made yesterday and still retain areas of dried grease. The exterior of the gun in also quite exceptional, the receiver retains 99%+ of its original blue and could easily pass for new, the barrel rates at 96% with only some very faint handling/storage marks and a few freckles present. The stock and forearm are of extremely nice quality walnut with only 2 light scratches on either side of the stock (neither penetrate the finish) and some scattered small indentations (checkering is SHARP). I would consider the wood to be in approximately 95% factory original condition. The case is one of the nicest I have ever seen and matches the quality of the gun exceptionally well.
The barrel measures 27.5" and is choked Full. The receiver and barrel, including the screws, are serial numbered to each other. Butt plate is excellent, showing little to no wear at all. This is really an amazing piece being almost 90 years old, remaining in near mint condition (case AND gun!), and being a very rare variation of the Browning Auto 5 shotgun. The 3 Shot variation was only produced for 4 years in the mid to late 1930s to accomodate the federal laws limiting shell capacity for waterfowl hunting. The forearm on these guns is ever so slightly shorter than the standard A-5 and is stamped "Browning 3 SHOT" on the bottom towards the screw on end cap.
Also includes the original warranty card and envelope, Automatic Shotgun Manual/Booklet, and period advertisement from Browning! These are all terribly hard to find (the originals anyway) and in my opinion add quite a bit of character to the package!
