Description:
SOLD....Antique Smith & Wesson 1st model Baby Russian. Here is an excellent Baby Russian. S/N 22230 and all matching of course. This model was only made 1876 to 1877 with the S/N range from 1 to 25548 so this one was made in 1877 near end of production... Numbers in side the grip is hard to make out but the numbers I can see match and are original to the gun and match the condition of the gun perfectly. It is in the .38 S&W black powder caliber. Has the standard 3 1/4” barrel. This little gun has most of it's original nickel finish. The barrel has 98% just missing a little at the muzzle. The frame has 99% including the front and rear grip straps. The cylinder has about 80% just missing some nickel down in the flutes as you can see. NO pitting anywhere on the gun. There are some light scratches on the front grip strap as you can see in the photo.. I have no idea what they mean ???? This gun has never been cleaned on or messed with in any way. The barrel latch has 80% blue just thinning a little on the rear section. No blue remains on the trigger. Case colors on the hammer have faded out. The mechanics are excellent and this gun is crisp and tight as a new gun. Both hammer notches are perfect and positive. Extractor works perfectly. Rock solid barre to frame fit at the latch and the hinge with no movement... The grips are excellent as well showing all the fine checkering and NO cracks or chips. A perfect snap on factory fit.. The markings are excellent. This is an odd one as the barrel address is rolled on backwards and reads from cylinder to the muzzle as you can see in the photos. This is only the second Baby Russian I have ever had in over 30 years with the backwards address !!!! Untouched front sight never filed on or messed with. The screw heads for the most part are crisp and not all burred up from tinkering. Some do show some turning but nothing bad at all.. All are very serviceable. The bore is very good with strong rifling and mild roughness from black powder. The cylinder chambers will clean to excellent. All in all, this is an excellent little pocket Smith & Wesson that shows little use... These little revolvers were very popular pocket guns in the day and much more rare then the later second models. One of the best Baby Russians I have has in quite some time. I have had several near mint second models but not the Baby Russians and while this gun is not near mint, it has quite a bit of untouched finish for the money. Don't miss this one if you are on the hunt for this model and a rare variation with the very seldom seen backwards barrel address !!!!! I don't get these 1st models in as much as I did years ago and with this amount of finish to boot.. $15 insured priority mail shipping. Call 765-728-8049 with any questions or more photos. Thank you for looking and God Bless The U.S.A.
