Beautifully CARVED STOCK .22 Caliber for Use Indoors!
Here we present an antique “Saloon” Pistol in .22 caliber rimfire, made circa the mid to late 1800s. Parlor pistols came into fashion in the mid-19th century, and they typically featured heavy barrels and were chambered in a small caliber. They were used for target shooting in saloons and even homes with a dedicated parlor or gallery for this purpose. Other guns of this type include “Gallery Guns”, “Flobert Guns”, and “Parlor Guns”, all designed for recreational indoor target shooting. These guns were developed in 1845, when French inventor Louis-Nicolas Flobert created the first rimfire metallic cartridge by modifying a percussion cap to hold a small lead bullet. These games were popular in saloons, at carnivals, and as mentioned above, in people’s homes during this period.
This one features a gorgeously carved stock, fluted octagonal barrel, and engraved and inlaid metalwork. Smoothbore in .22. A truly unique and excellent piece of work.
The overall condition is fine. The action is strong. The bore is bright and smooth. Gold and silver inlays adorn the top of the barrel with all other metal parts being engraved. The entire stocked is ornately carved with floral designs. The left side of the barrel is Liege proofed. This example of a parlor pistol would display very well!
