Description:
This is a nice honest and original antique Winchester Model 1873, one of the Winchester firm's most famous models often associated with the American West.  This particular example was manufactured in 1892 and is chambered in .32-20 Winchester.  It appears to have been used and carried quite a bit with the original blue finish worn and aged to brown patina on all of the metal parts, as well as showing lots of handling marks.  There is no telling what all history this Winchester has witnessed.  The bore in the 24" inch octagon barrel is dark from one end to the other but does still show rifling throughout as well.  The original smooth Walnut stock set is still intact, showing wear and a patina consistent with the rest of the rifle.  All of the original stock hardware is still intact except for the screw that runs thru the forearm cap, which looks to have been replaced a long time ago with a homemade pin instead.  The lever action on this Winchester Model 1873 is in good working order. The lever stays nice and tight to the wrist with no droop when in battery, and the hammer on this rifle still has both notches intact at half and full-cock.  The sliding top cover, the loading gate, the lever-lock, and the trigger all seem to be in working order.  It is still handsome enough to be collectible and could be used as a very cool decorator as well.   NOTE: In going thru this Winchester to clean the action we have discovered the "shade tree" gunsmithing on the forend cap has rendered it unable to use the normal screw.  This rifle will require a replacement forend cap and possibly some other magazine parts to fix properly.  We have reduced the price from $1295 to $995 to offset these potential repair costs.
