Description:
This is a very early Remington rifle that was a breech loading conversion of the Civil War Springfield rifle. This gun has the original Springfield barrel and sights. The three grove bore is in very good condition. The exterior of the barrel shows light pitting along it's length as well as the barrel bands. The forearm has been shortened or replaced. A previous owner carved A. C. on both sides of the stock. The barrel is 39 inches long. The metal has been cleaned and a light coat of vanish has been applied to the gun. This is a very unusual gun to find.
