Description:
This is an extremely cool 100% original Springfield M1 Garand built in June of 1945 during the last months of World War 2 production.  While we don't know if it saw any service in the Pacific Theater during the last couple of months of WW2, it definitely saw combat in Korea.  We actually acquired it from an extended family member of the Korean War soldier that carried it, and has never been on the collector's market or altered or modified in any way.  The M1 Garand is considered by most collectors and historians to be one of the finest battle rifles ever fielded by any army in the entire world.  This gas-operated semi-automatic rifle is chambered in .30-06 Springfield and uses 8-round enbloc clips inserted through the top of the action with the bolt locked back.  After the 8 rounds are fired the empty clips pops out of the action and another can be inserted very quickly.  It was extremely well-made, reliable, accurate, tough, and powerful, giving the U.S. soliders that carried it a decided advantage over their opponents that were primarily armed with bolt-action rifles.  This particular example is serial number 3841675, and has a barrel date of June of 1945.  We have been through this rifle from top to bottom and it is 100% original and correct, just as it left the factory.  All of the parts are original to the gun, including the stock. It has never been arsenal overhauled at any point.  As you can see from the pictures, this is one handsome M1 Garand.  It shows some combat wear and has a very pleasing even patina on all of the metal parts.  There are no eyesores or ugly spots on this rifle.  The bore is in excellent condition overall with a nice bright and shiny bore and string rifling throughout.  We gauged the muzzle at a "2" and the throat at a "3", indicating it has been well-cared for and still has the vast majority of it's life left.  Thsi Springfield should shoot just as reliably and accurately as the day it left the factory 75 years ago.  The original stock set on this Garand is very handsome.  All of the stock pieces match in color and degree of wear, and all of the original stock hardware is intact and shows consistent wear matching the rest of the rifle.  You can see many little dings, dents, and scratches in the wood but no major damage.  Of note are the clusters of small round dents in the right side of the stock, these are a result of the soldier that carried it seating the ammo in the clips in the heat of battle by banging the bullet tips against the rifle of a loaded en-bloc clip.  This is a common characteristic of a combat-used Garand.  The left side of the stock still has a visible boxed "S.A." over "N.F.R." U.S. Military inspection cartouche, and the right side of the butt has a stencil-painted rack number or unit marking (We are not sure which).  The mechanics of this rifle are excellent.  The action is slick and precise, and all of the controls are in perfect working order, including the adjustable lock-bar rear sight.  As mentioned earlier, this Garand should be 100% functional.  It comes complete with an original WW2-production U.S.G.I.sling with the flat buckle, and we have original U.S.G.I. enbloc clips available for an additional cost.  If you have been looking for a 100% original un-molested example of this legendary U.S. Military rifle, here is your chance to get one that has never been on the market before and is a true combat survivor with both WW2 and Korean War historical significance.
