Super rare, betcha didn’t know that in the 1930s H&R produced exactly 1000 hand finished and tuned single action only competition guns, to be available for competitors in the U.S.R.A. matches at Camp Perry and others Starting with serial number U-0001 to U-1000. They are quite different than the more common 999 Sportsman. The cylinder has been shortened to the exact length of the cartridge and the barrel was lengthened the same amount. The gun is easily identified. Only the ultra-had an almost vertical trigger. It could be ordered with five different grips; this gun has the rarely seen #3 style.
The condition of this 90-year-old “attic queen” is awesome. It retains about 98% of the original blue. The only loss is from some very slight sharp edge silvering and the usual cylinder turn rings. The front grip strap has no significant toning. The gun has obviously seen very little use. All parts match.
The walnut grips are as pristine as the rest of the gun. It locks up tight and functions perfectly with a silk smooth trigger pull. The cylinder face and recoil shield also show very little use. The bore is pristine, mirror bright with razor sharp rifling and not a touch of frost anywhere. It is a great find for the serious investor/collector and a real X ring blaster at the range.
