Description: The Model 63 was introduced in 1933 to replace the previous Model 1903 in an attempt by Winchester to solve the problem of having to use a special 22 cartridge in the gun to operate the blowback system. The 63 is a very well built and very high quality 22 semi-automatic rifle. Many collectors and shooters consider the Model 63 to be the best semi-auto 22 rifle ever made, even being considered better than the Ruger 10/22 rifle, though this is the subject of considerable debate. The 63 chambered the standard and universal .22 Long Rifle rimfire cartridge. Early examples were fitted with a 20-inch barrel, while most guns are fitted with a longer 23-inch round barrel. The gun was fitted with a plain walnut stock and forend. The tubular magazine was fitted into the butt stock which came with a steel plate. Charging the action was done by means of pushing a short, capped rod sticking from the tip of the forearm inward towards the rear. This is a simple, short and easy method of operation. The original Model 63 was produced between 1933 and 1958 and around 174,692 were produced. This Model 63 retains a quite a bit of the original bluing. Parts of the receiver have a nice patina to them. The rear sight retains its elevator which is commonly missing from many .22 rifles regardless of make and manufacturer. The wood is in good condition with some mars but no cracks. The bore is bright and spotless. This rifle would be an extremely good shooter. According to the Standard Catalogue of Winchester Firearms, 3rd Edition, this Model 63 left the factory in 1940.
