Description:
The Lawman Mark III was introduced in 1969 as part of the new Mark III Series of revolvers designed to replace Colt’s old, medium frame revolvers which by the late 1960s were becoming too expensive and labor intensive to maintain profitability against competitors. The Lawman was built as a fixed sights Service type revolver. Barrel lengths were 2 and 4 inches. The early production 2-inch guns had the same exposed ejector rod as the 4-inch version. This was later changed to a heavy shrouded ejector rod barrel similar to that used on the Detective Special. Early Lawman revolvers also featured a narrow, grooved Service type hammer and narrow grooved trigger. Later models used the wide, serrated target hammer (.500”) of the Trooper Mark III. This Lawman was produced in 1972 and is interesting in that it exhibits features and parts from both early and later production. It could be considered a transition model of sorts. The barrel is the early exposed ejector rod type. The trigger and hammer are later production types. This Lawman in good condition for its age. The nickel plating is foggy in some spots. There are minor powder burns on the front of the cylinder. There are a few spots of micro-pitting, but these are small. The bore is in excellent condition with no rust or pitting. This revolver would make a nice addition to any Colt collection.
