GENEVA, SWITZERLAND Antique BELT Pistol Circa 1840
Maker Marked Swiss Percussion Pistol
Here we present an antique Bermond Percussion Belt Pistol, made circa 1840 in Geneva, Switzerland. This pistol would have been made originally as a flintlock in the earlier part of the 19th Century before being updated to the more reliable percussion firing system. This is a handsome piece that might have been carried by an officer or non-commissioned officer in the Swiss military. It is smaller than a horse pistol: just the right size for a serious fighting pistol that could be worn on your person. Part-round, part-octagonal barrel. Steel furniture and modestly carved wooden stock. High quality. The steel pommel cap would have served well as a club after its single shot was expended. There is an interesting marking on the left side of the barrel that may be another mark by the maker, a proof or acceptance mark, or even a Cantonal marking. The lock is marked “BERMOND A GENEVE”.
The overall condition is near fine. Nice patina. Clear markings. The bore is smooth and in very nice shape. The action is strong and crisp.
