Description:
CENTERFIRE! 56-50 SPENCER Antique Model 1865 Saddle Ring CAVALRY CARBINE

INDIAN WARS; 1 of 23,000 M1865 Carbines Produced

Here we present an antique Spencer Repeating Rifle Co. Model 1865 Repeating Carbine, Chambered for 56-50 Centerfire, made circa 1865 in Boston, Massachusetts, at the end of the Civil War. The Model 1865 carbines were lever-operated, breech-loading rifles that were marvels of the time and had a lasting impact on how war was to be fought in the future. Though their service life in the U.S. military was relatively short, the Spencer story includes Christopher Spencer, the inventor of the rifle, demonstrating and shooting with President Abraham Lincoln, who gave his full endorsement of the piece. Supposedly, during the battle at Gettysburg, a captured Rebel that day said one could “load in the morning and fire all day!” This was due to the Spencer’s most endearing quality: a 7-round magazine tube in the butt of the gun. This gave the shooter phenomenal firepower in a day when most soldiers were muzzle-loading single shots or even singly loading their breech-loading carbines.

This carbine has been converted from the original rimfire to centerfire so that it may be fired with modern, reloadable ammunition. This is a fantastic opportunity for the historical enthusiast, re-enactor, or shooter to be able to put rounds down range with a 155 year old cavalry carbine!

The overall condition is very good+. Nice blue finish. The action is strong. the bore is bright and shiny. The ladder sight functions properly, which is a very nice feature. Here’s a great opportunity to pick up a nice Spencer Carbine that helped to tame the Wild West after the close of the Civil War!

Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction.

Barrel is 20 inches.

Caliber: .50 Spencer
