Description:
Serial #1400, .70 Caliber, 7 3/4" barrel with a good, lightly pitted bore. This is a sturdy and good looking pistol, with an 1863 dated bolster conversion to percussion at the barrel breech. The metal has an overall mottled, pewter gray patina, and there is some even, pinprick pitting near the muzzle, as well as on the lockplate and hammer, however the St. Etienne markings are still crisp and legible. The brass fittings were cleaned in the past, but have begun to repatinate, and have a mixed bright and muted yellow-ochre patina. The walnut stock is also marked “1400" on the left side of the grip, along with numerous armory stamps and markings. The wood has small handling marks and minor surface blemishes under an added varnish finish. A cup-headed ramrod is included, but the lock is fully functional. This is a nice example of a mid-19th century French military pistol, and rates very good-near fine overall. Antique
