Description:
This is a Hopkins & Allen conversion from a .36 cal percussion revolver to a .38 cal rf cartridge revolver. H&A called these "The Dictator" and they came both marked and unmarked. This example is unmarked but has the 5-panel cylinder scene just like the percussion revolver. The original percussion serial number was 4900; the conversion serial number is 1184. All five primitive folk art cylinder scenes appear in oval vignettes and are clearly visible. They include: a stand of arms with drum, an eagle with arrows, a bear, a dog and Native American in profile. Condition: The gun has a nickel plated frame with about 90% of the finish remaining. Only on the left side of the frame above the trigger is an area of speckling where some nickel is missing as can be seen in the photos. The barrel and cylinder have original factory bluing about 15% on the barrel, balance turned brown; the cylinder has about 40-50% original factory bright blue which is thinning. Mechanically it is fine with a strong mainspring. The wood grips retain about 75% of original varnish which is flaking; the grain is raised. A scarce gun in nice condition.
