Here is a nice old Stevens 44 in a readily available caliber, .32-20. It had a good bore and the sights to shoot well with it. 26" round barrel. The wood has plenty of dings as might be expected on a 100+ year-old rifle but it is solid, no cracks or gouges. The finish is pretty much patina but no rust or pitting. It's been used but not abused, a gentleman's rifle from another era that can provide you with enjoyment now. $50 shipping and insurance to your ffl or your C&R.
