F/S (no trades) 1. Colt 1860 Army - documented Civil War issue to Pvt. John Hale Powers, First Vermont Cavalry. My Colt letter states shipped March 17, 1862 to New York Arsenal, Governor's Island, NY. In my possession, a James D. Julia sales proffer states that a document was found during an estate sale. The document was a hand written notation on the prescription pad of a Dr. Hale Powers.( VT. records show that John H. Powers had a son named Hale Powers.) This note attested that this gun was carried by Pvt. Powers during the civil war. Additional details available to serious buyers.
The gun is in remarkable condition, considering its wartime exposure. I believe that this gun has had a minor professional restoration, as the barrel has been reduced in length by 3/16 inch and the grips possibly replaced, as they bare no grip car- touche. A higher silver front sight has been professionally added. Cylinder has traces of the Naval battle scene.Strong blue remains on the top backstrap and the grip base. Bore is bright and shiny.
