This Pre-Ban Colt Sporter Target Model is unfired and in mint condition. It was bought new sometime in the early 1990's by the original owner and put up in a safe. The original box and manual were lost sometime in the past. The Colt Model R6551 Sporter Target Model AR-15 was introduced in 1991 and was intended as an accurized version of their AR15. The Sporter Target Model is very similar to the firm's H-Bar Match rifle in that it has a 20" heavy barrel but the Sporter Target Model's barrel reduces down in diameter under the handguard to make it lighter. The Sporter Target Model also features an A2 reat sight on a fixed carry handle and an improved factory trigger, and is fitted with a standard A2 rifle buttstock and A2 rifle-length ventilated handguard with integral metal heat shields. The Pre-Ban cuttoff is serial number ST 038100, and this example is serial number ST 020102. The factory finish rates 99% and the rifle has a pristine and perfect bore with factory sharp rifling. The stock set is also in excellent condition and shows no wear, cracks, damage, or repairs. All of the controls on this rifle are in 100% perfect working order and the action is smooth and tight.
